On Monday, the chief medical officers (CMOs) of Britain's four nations confirmed that children aged 12 to 15 would receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Chris Whitty, England's CMO, said they considered "what effect this will have on transmission in schools and on education".

It's a useful tool for reducing disruptions, he said. Vaccinations will likely be administered through the school immunization program.

Sky News reported that England's deputy CMO Jonathan Van-Tam said healthy children aged 12 to 15 would receive a single dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

The number of cases could increase following children's return to school after the summer break. With this latest decision, the impact of the pandemic on children's education as well as the risks to their mental health are taken into account.

Around 3 million children may be eligible for the vaccination despite Britain's vaccine advisory body's decision not to recommend mass vaccinations for children aged 12 to 15 years old.

Since these mosquitoes are frequent carriers of the infection within households, we will be unable to control the virus with vaccination alone - and certainly not if this demographic is unvaccinated," said Peter English, the immediate past chair of the Public Health Medicine Committee of the British Medical Association.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), Britain's vaccine advisory body, recommended that children aged 12 to 15 with medical conditions receive two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, but healthy children in this age group should not receive the vaccine.

The JCVI's advisory report states that the "individual" health benefits of vaccination for children aged 12 to 15 are marginal, while the risk of potentially serious side effects, including myocarditis, is "very rare, but potentially serious."

According to the latest figures, almost 89 percent of people aged 16 and over in Britain have had their first dose of vaccine and nearly 81 percent have had both doses.
